As a Sicilian woman I know how to hold a grudge. I like to say it is in my blood but that is probably just an excuse. Anyway, I recently read an article in the Houston Chronicle that tops any kind of revenge that I could ever dream of doing. According to the article, the police recently arrested Toni Jo Silvey and charged her with felony stalking. According to the article, Silvey was still upset over her breakup in 2009 with a local artist. The article states that Silvey allegedly called her ex-lover 146 times in the span of 24 hours. She also allegedly egged his house, shattered several of her ex-lover’s windows with a tire iron and then later broke another window with a 5 foot sword. (Question – where do you get a 5 foot sword?). Silvey created an Internet persona called Wounded Poetic Soul. Silvey also started a blog that detailed the breakup of her relationship and her post-breakup bad behavior in excruciating detail. Silvey also allegedly sent her ex lover 712 emails and called him 1001 times over a span of less than three months.
The police stated that when Silva was arrested she repeatedly told the police, “Read my blog, read my blog, it’s all there.”
Whoa! This is a fatal attraction that could be made into a movie. If this incident is true, I feel for the ex-lover. Nobody deserves getting a window broken with a sword, 712 emails and 1001 phone calls. This incident brings up the whole issue of Facebook. Why would you put this type of stuff on the Internet? It’s an example of letting emotions overpower brain power. It’s a lot of emotion with little or no brain power. Revenge is an evil thing. Revenge is like a boomerang. You throw it out but it always comes back to knock you in the head.
Employees like to get on Facebook. Soon we will see a new addiction, FACEBOOK SYNDROME. I have noticed that even when Facebook is blocked on the Company’s internet, employees will still be on Facebook via their phones. I know of a secretary that was terminated from her job for bad mouthing her boss on her Facebook page. She thought it would never be seen by her boss because her boss wasn’t a “Facebook Friend”. However, another “Friend” on her Facebook page showed the comment to her boss, and the rest is history. Employers now know to check Facebook pages before they consider hiring an employee.
When will people learn to stop putting stupid stuff on Facebook? Probably never.
